A Somber Anniversary

September 11th 2007 05:56
Like practically everyone else on the planet, I remember exactly what I was doing almost six years ago today when it happened. September 11, 2001 dawned typically bright and sunny in South Florida, as I awoke at my usual 6:30 a.m. hour. Though my position as a recruiter for a large national bank didn’t require my presence at the office until 8:30 a.m., I always left early, so I could enjoy the scenic route (instead of the perpetually snarled Interstate 95) from my home in Boynton Beach to my office in downtown Boca Raton. As I drove down A1A along the coast – quite possibly the most beautiful road in America – I drank in the magnificence of a rising orange sun over crystal blue water, the lushness of verdant foliage and vivid tropical flowers, and the graceful sway of ubiquitous palm trees.

Normally I listened to motivational CD’s during my 45-minute trek, but for some reason on this particular morning, I chose to leave on 97.9, WRMF, a local pop music station. At the time, they had a good morning show team consisting of two guys and a girl with a spontaneous chemistry reminiscent of Fox and Friends, when E.D. Hill was still a part of the line-up (with all due respect to Gretchen Carlson, the show just isn’t the same since E.D. left

Thank You, Prime Minister Howard

September 4th 2007 14:54
Demonstrating that moonbattery is an international affliction, anti-President Bush protesters took to the streets in Sydney to "welcome" the leader of the free world. And they even have a token member of the United States Military on their side. I guess when the vast majority of American soldiers support the war, finding one who doesn't is an easy task:

About 200 anti-war activists gathered in central Sydney to voice their opposition to President Bush's policy in Iraq.

Giving us the most compelling reason to date to diss a Dallas sports team, billionaire Mavericks owner and producer Mark Cuban has teamed with America-hating director Brian De Palma on a new troop-sliming film called Redacted. In the latest installment of Hollywood Hates America, those who've possibly benefited the most from this great country in terms of wealth and fame, thank the ones who make their freedom possible by creating a movie that focuses on the heinous crimes of a tiny minority, instead of the valiant heroism of the vast majority. If Cuban and De Palma really wanted to bring "truth" to the screen, why didn't they depict on film the genital mutilation, honor killings, stonings and rapes that Middle Eastern women routinely suffer at the hands of radical male Muslims? Why not create a little "context" by featuring Saddam's rape rooms? Or the brutality of the Taliban? Irony -- not to mention patriotism -- is lost on these people.

As Debbie Schlussel noted, this is not De Palma's first foray into military-bashing. In 1989, he directed Casualties of War, a movie about five American soldiers fighting in Vietnam, four of whom kidnap and rape an innocent Vietnamese girl. Schlussel also pointed out that the film starred Sean Penn, another recipient of American prosperity who has made quite a name for himself among the world's most despicable human rights violators, from Saddam Hussein to Hugo Chavez. Perhaps in preparation for his "Jeff Spicoli" role in the 1981 film, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Penn smoked a little too much pot, resulting in irreparable damage to his brain. Or perhaps, in lock-step with his fellow ivory-tower dwellers in Hollyweird, he's completely out of touch with reality

Can We Just Get Beyond Katrina?

September 1st 2007 18:04
Kudos to Cassy Fiano of Wizbang and John Hawkins of Townhall, for eloquently stating what many of us, especially those living in other hurricane-prone states have felt all along. It is time for the citizens of New Orleans to stop whining and start taking responsibility. That includes some serious self-examination as to the real reasons why they re-elected a woefully incompetent mayor, in spite of his gross negligence in the wake of their city's worst natural disaster.

Fiano, a resident of Jacksonville, Florida, recalls the active 2004 season, during which the state was hit by four major hurricanes

Senator Craig Plays Footsie

August 29th 2007 17:34
In yet another instance of a public figure refusing to take responsibility for his repulsive actions, Senator Larry Craig, Republican from Idaho, held a defiant press conference yesterday. Rather than apologizing for coming on to an undercover police officer in a public restroom at a Minneapolis Airport and announcing his resignation, Craig excoriated the local newspaper, The Idaho Statesman, and vehemently denied being gay. I guess the fact that he'd pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges in Hennepin County on August 8 must have slipped his mind. And since the behavior in question had nothing to do with punishing people for being gay and everything to do with numerous complaints that the men's room had turned into a brothel, Craig would have done well to leave his sexuality out of it. (By the way, since when did public restrooms become such a turn-on? Bleech!).

Democrats and the mainstream media are of course, having a field day broadcasting the fact that this a Republican senator -- you know, the party of "family values," while virtually ignoring the well-documented illegal behavior of members of the Democratic party including Bill Clinton, William Jefferson, Barney Frank, Cynthia McKinney and Jack Murtha, to name a few

What part of right versus wrong don't people understand? Why is it that when a black celebrity, athlete or public figure is so obviously guilty of a deplorable crime, the race-baiters and apologists come out of the woodwork to place everything in the proper "context," even in the face of irrefutable evidence?

In case you've been living on another planet for the last several weeks, Atlanta Falcons' star Quarterback Michael Vick pleaded guilty to a federal dogfighting charge on August 27. So let's talk about "context," shall we

About a year ago, I blogged about an excellent (aren't they always) column penned by journalist and legal immigrant to the USA, Mark Steyn, in response to kooky conspiracy theories and Popular Mechanics' detailed rebuttal entitled, Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can't Stand Up to the Facts.

As breathtaking as it may be nearly six years after the worst attack on American soil, a stunning 36% of the population actually believes that the government of the United States is responsible for the horrific deaths of 3,000 of its citizens on that agonizing day. NOT Osama bin Laden. NOT Al Qaeda. NOT the scourge of global jihad. It was that stupid cowboy George W. Bush and his evil sidekick, Dick Cheney! They're the ones who caused the towers to collapse with a cleverly contrived "controlled demolition" and led us to believe that American passenger planes had crashed into the WTC, the Pentagon and a field in Western Pennsylvania (if in fact, Flight 93 actually existed), when truly, the real culprits were deliberately guided American missiles, fired off on BushCheney's command
