Freedom Bright - July 2007

Heroism On and Off The Battlefield

July 31st 2007 18:25
Wow, it's hard to read this without getting choked up. Yet another reason I am proud to be an American and eternally grateful for the men and women of the United States Military. Not that this will get widespread coverage in the elite media either in America or abroad; it just doesn't fit well with the leftist view of patriotic soldiers as victims or predators. And it certainly doesn't fit the paradigm of evil America (i.e. The Bush Administration) waging a "war for oil" at the expense of innocent Iraqis, who would have been much better off had we allowed Saddam Hussein to continue his brutal reign of terror. But I am sure these handicapped and orphaned Iraqi boys are eternally grateful:

It often takes the most challenging of situations to bring out the best in each of us. For Maj. Southworth, that paradox led him not only to adopt a disabled Iraqi orphan as his son, but also to wage a relentless battle against bureaucratic obstacles to bring 24 mistreated orphans out of a corrupt Iraqi orphanage, and into the homes of loving American families.

More PC Madness, Gitmo Edition

July 29th 2007 05:22
Well, this is just fabulous news! No wonder why Michael Savage calls liberalism a "mental disorder."

Someone please explain to me why known Jihadists captured in battle and detained at Guatanamo Bay get more consideration and respect from liberals than the very soldiers who defend their freedom. You know, the same troops lefties claim to support

Real Feminist: Nonie Darwish

July 28th 2007 21:35
In this frightening age of radical Muslim extremism, it is difficult to find a more powerful, inspiring female role model than Nonie Darwish, author of the new book, Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I renounced Jihad for America, Israel and the War on Terror. The outspoken, Egyptian-born Darwish -- daughter of a Muslim Shahid (Martyr) -- opines from personal experience, having been raised on hateful propaganda against Jews and other non-Muslims.

Born in Cairo, Darwish moved to Gaza in the 1950’s when her father, Lt. General Mustafa Hafez, was sent by Gamal Abdel Nasser to serve as commander of the Egyptian Army Intelligence in Gaza, occupied at the time by Egypt. Hafez founded the Fedayeen which launched raids across Israel’s southern border, killing about 400 Israelis between 1951 and 1956. In July of 1956, when Darwish was just eight years-old, her father became the first targeted assassination of the Israeli Defense Forces, in response to these unprovoked attacks, elevating him to martyrdom status in the Islamic culture. Nasser then vowed publicly that all of Egypt would avenge Hafez’s death. Most shockingly, he posed this chilling question to Darwish and her siblings: “Which one of you will avenge your father’s death by killing Jews

Real Feminism

July 28th 2007 21:27
Hello Orble Readers:

Consistent with this blog's focus on freedom, I have decided to start a regular feature celebrating what I refer to as "Real" Feminism. Last year, I wrote a feature on an incredibly brave woman and author, Nonie Darwish. I am posting that here, along with my response to Ms. Magazine's repulsive "I Had An Abortion" campaign.

Europe's Wake-Up Call

July 28th 2007 16:06
According to this July 26, 2007 article in The Jerusalem Post, Pope Benedict's private secretary had some sobering words for Europe:

"Attempts to Islamize the west cannot be denied," Monsignor Georg Gaenswein was quoted as saying in an advance copy of the weekly Sueddeutsche Magazin to be published Friday

Good News (For Now) for Freedom

July 27th 2007 14:18
Despite the Democrats' zeal to resurrect the so-called Fairness Doctrine, the FCC Chairman has no intention of caving in to their demands, according to this AP report. That's good news for freedom of speech for now, although as Bryan Preston points out, actual legislation is still needed to preserve the rights of talk radio hosts, their listeners and the American citizenry in general.

The push by Pelosi, Reid and their co-horts in Congress comes fresh on the heels of the well-deserved demise of the recent "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" debacle, brought about by talk radio and the blogosphere. In strark contrast to Congress, talk radio hosts and bloggers actually informed the public of the proposed bill's disasterous provisions, and encouraged disgruntled Americans to contact their lawmakers to make their displeasure known. Once informed, Americans flooded the phone lines, causing the Senate switchboard to crash, along with the bill

In a critical victory for the rights of responsible, freedom-loving Americans, the Senate finally did the right thing today by passing the John Doe Amendment. Sanity prevailed, thanks in large part to Senator Joe Lieberman, a principled leader who places his country's safety above partisan grandstanding. Because of the efforts of Senators Joseph Lieberman and Susan Collins, ordinary citizens can rest assured they will not be subjected to frivilous lawsuits, simply because when they "saw something" they "said something."

A joint statement by House Republican Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and ranking member of the Committee on Homeland Security, Peter King, R-New York follows

In an astonishing blow to astute American citizens who care about the safety of their fellow countrymen, Senate Democrats voted against the "John Doe Protection Amendment" today. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Peter King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee and Rep. Steve Pearce, New Mexico Republican, in response to a lawsuit filed by a group of Muslim imams against US Airways and unknown "John Doe" passengers after they were removed from Flight 300 from Minneapolis to Phoenix on November 20, 2006, for demonstrating suspicious behavior reminiscent of the 9/11 hijackers.

As if it isn't scary enough that our freeoms are under attack by radical extremists, now because of Democrats, responsible citizens acting in good faith must do so with the risk of a lawsuit hanging over their heads. Sorry, folks, if you see something, shut up or we'll see you in court! That is, if you don't perish in a fiery, terrorist-ordained inferno first

Let's make one thing perfectly clear from the outset: I fully acknowledge that not all Muslims are terrorists. However, in light of events dating back to the 1979 seizure of the US Embassy in Iran, the horror of September 11, 2001 and this summer's attempt to blow up the Glasgow Airport in Scotland, it would behoove all of us who cherish freedom and western civilization to take off the PC gloves and face facts. Like it or not, most terrorists share one glaring commonality: Adherence to Islam.

Yes, we can argue that their violent, fanatical brand of the Prophet Mohammad's faith with its "kill all infidels" mentality, bears no resemblance to the mainstream religion practiced by the majority. That the gruesome beheadings, honor killings of women for perceived "insults" to Islam, vile plots to blow up airliners over the ocean, and endless rageful demonstrations worldwide over everything from cartoons posted in a Danish newspaper to Pope Benedict's speech (taken completely out of context) on faith and reason, are the zealous crimes of a small percentage
