Signs of Intelligent Life in Hollywood

No, I am not talking about dictator-lovin' Sean Penn, who can't seem to get enough of Venezuelan thug Hugo Chavez, but Maria Conchita-Alonso. Born in Cuba and raised in Venezuela, Conchita-Alonso is most widely known for her role as Robin Williams' girlfriend in the film Moscow on the Hudson. Considering her background and upbringing, I give the "absolute moral authority" to the beautiful actress over perpetually adolescent Penn on this issue. The overrated actor, who shot to fame in the role of loser Jeff Spicoli (perhaps his most true-to-life depiction), continues to demonstrate his ignorance when it comes to matters of freedom, terror and world events. According to an AP report:
Hollywood star Sean Penn applauded President Hugo Chavez as the Venezuelan leader lambasted the Bush administration and demanded an end to war in Iraq.
Chavez met privately with Penn for two hours Thursday, praising the actor as "brave" for urging Americans to impeach President Bush.
"In the name of the peoples of the world, President Bush, withdraw the troops from Iraq. Enough already with so much genocide," Chavez said before an auditorium packed with his red-clad supporters.
Penn sat near the front, at times applauding and nodding in agreement. He is the latest in a series of celebrities who have visited Caracas, including actor Danny Glover and singer Harry Belafonte.
Chavez said he and Penn discussed the question of "why the (U.S.) empire attacks Chavez so much," saying Venezuela's oil wealth is a key reason.
Yes, Bush-Derangement Syndrome is alive and well! But on this issue at least, Maria Conchita-Alonso, who resides in Beverly Hills, demonstrates that there is some intelligent life in Hollywood:
Cuban-born actress Maria Conchita Alonso, who grew up in Venezuela, said Penn is lending support to a "totalitarian" leader who wants increasing control of society — a charge Chavez denies.
In a phone interview from her home in Beverly Hills, California, Alonso said although she respects Penn as an actor, she hopes he "comes to his senses and he realizes that he's being used."
With all due respect to Maria Conchita-Alonso, I seriously doubt Penn will ever come to grips with reality; he'll play his real-life role of "useful idiot," in lockstep with so many of his Tinseltown brethren, most likely until he draws his last breath. Not that middle-America lends much credence to this clown, thank God. Most us are aware that the self-proclaimed, self-important celebrity "experts" look upon their Red-State dwelling countrymen as hicks, rednecks and Jesus freaks, while celebrating the world's most brutal despots.
Funny, though Hollywood routinely condemns their country and its President in the company of the world's most heinous human-rights violators, they always return to their ivory towers in Malibu, Manhattan and other celebrity enclaves. I guess America is good for some things, like overpaying the least educated among us.
