Western Appeasement in the Clash of Civilizations

July 20th 2007 04:04
Let's make one thing perfectly clear from the outset: I fully acknowledge that not all Muslims are terrorists. However, in light of events dating back to the 1979 seizure of the US Embassy in Iran, the horror of September 11, 2001 and this summer's attempt to blow up the Glasgow Airport in Scotland, it would behoove all of us who cherish freedom and western civilization to take off the PC gloves and face facts. Like it or not, most terrorists share one glaring commonality: Adherence to Islam.

Yes, we can argue that their violent, fanatical brand of the Prophet Mohammad's faith with its "kill all infidels" mentality, bears no resemblance to the mainstream religion practiced by the majority. That the gruesome beheadings, honor killings of women for perceived "insults" to Islam, vile plots to blow up airliners over the ocean, and endless rageful demonstrations worldwide over everything from cartoons posted in a Danish newspaper to Pope Benedict's speech (taken completely out of context) on faith and reason, are the zealous crimes of a small percentage.

The vast majority of Muslims are not inciting bloodthirsty destruction and shouting "Death to America!" "Death to Israel!" But the fact of the matter is, the small percentage of Muslims hell-bent on world domination find their inspiration in the teachings of the Koran. When crashing American jetliners full of innocent civilians into New York skyscrapers full of more of the same, the terrorists' final cries were "Allah Akhbar!" not "Praise Jesus!" This Muslim minority's interpretation of Islam's Holy Book and their determination to impose a worldwide theocracy ruled by Sharia Law are the driving forces of terror. Sorry to disappoint the intelligentsia among us, but George Bush, Tony Blair and John Howard have nothing to do with it (and as an American who truly appreciated and admired Tony Blair's courage, let's just say I'm less than thrilled with Britain's new PM; but that's a post for another day). Moreover, when calculated against the entire Muslim population, this "small percentage" translates into 180-300 million - a frighteningly siginficant number of people.

Chillingly, the west's continual, indeed - suicidal - capitulation and hypersensitivitiy to these murdering zealots is almost as anxiety-provoking as the thought of another 9/11-style bloodbath. Consider the vicious plot in July of 2006 to blow up Canada's Parliament and behead the country's Prime Minister: The terrorists' horrendous objectives were thankfully foiled by the diligence of the Canadian police. But rather than state the obvious - that the would-be killers were driven by radical Islam, the mainstream press bent over backwards insisting that these men "came from a broad strata of society," conveniently omitting the fact that all were strident followers of the religion founded by Mohammad.

When President Bush finally publicly named the enemy - "Islamic Fascism" - in the wake of the foiled airliner plots uncovered in London last summer, it took all of a few seconds before grievance mongers like CAIR, the Council on American and Islamic Relations, condemned him for "offending Muslims." Why weren't they more offended by the terror plot that would have unleashed "unspeakable horror" 30,000 feet above the Atlantic in the name of Allah?

Even the phrase "War on Terror" is a PC cave-in; terror is a tactic the determined enemy employs, not the enemy itself. The term suggests a metaphorical struggle, much like America's "War on Drugs," diminishing the grim reality of the western fight for survival.

President Bush takes great pains in every public speech to distinguish between the radicalized adherents to a violent brand of Islam and its peaceful majority. For his efforts he's rewarded by many Americans, Canadians, Europeans and Australians - who just can't seem to fathom that some things really do boil down to good versus evil - with diabolical films depicting his assassination (Assassination of a President, which made its dubious debut at the Toronto Film Festival last year), and endless ad nauseam comparisons to every heinous dictator from Josef Stalin to Adolf Hitler.

Rather than direct their venom at the deserving target - Islamic terrorists - many in the west live in a perpetual state of denial wherein the President of the United States is a greater threat to the world than radical Islam. Of course, these are the same people who also subscribe to the ridiculous notion that the USA is an inherently bad country and the cause of all the suffering in the world. Alarmingly, this vile and seriously flawed outlook permeates even the American government and media. Many who inhabit these institutions are blinded by extreme left-wing ideology and the quest for personal power; therefore, undermining national security is of no concern to them as long as it makes President Bush look bad. (One case in point: The New York Times splashing the secrets of SWIFT, an effective terrorist finance-tracking program all over its front pages last year, in spite of the Administration's request not to do so).

It seems the west is more obsessed with hating George W. Bush, demonstrating its "tolerance" and practicing self-flagellation ("Why, oh why do they hate us?") than it is with facing sobering reality.

On November 2, 2004, film maker Theo Van Gogh, producer of the 10-minute film Submission, which was based on a script by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, and detailed incidents of violence against women in Muslim societies, found himself at the receiving end of the ultimate intolerance. As punishment for expressing his right to free speech, Van Gogh was shot 8 times by handgun wielding Mohammad Bouyeri, a radicalized Muslim, who is now serving a life sentence without parole. Hollywood actor/activists like Danny Glover — always quick to (falsely) condemn President Bush for perceived assaults against free speech and humanity– were strangely silent in the wake of Van Gogh’s untimely demise. Was Van Gogh’s creative expression any less valuable, than say, Michael Moore’s? At least Van Gogh’s film was based on factual information from a credible source and not outright lies and fabrications designed to affect the outcome of an election.

But for the most egregious example of western appeasement, look no further than the Guantanamo Bay prison, holding facility for known Jihadists captured in battle. Gitmo epitomizes America’s dangerous capitulation to political correctness, with guards ordered to respect the rights and religious practices of inmates. To that end, detainees are provided special prayer mats, Asian-style toilets, Korans hung in pristine surgical masks (to assure them they haven’t been touched by “unclean” infidel hands), and special meals conforming to their religious practices. Detainees reward all this deference by hurling human excrement and bodily fluids at the guards on a daily basis. Clearly, torture is being inflicted at this facility, only not upon the prisoners, but by them.

As for why this violent minority hates us, western civilization would do well to heed the words of Brigitte Gabriel, author of the book, Because They Hate: A Survivor of Islamic Terror Warns America, and Founder of American Congress for Truth. In her words, “I am a victim of the Lebanese Civil War, which was the first front in the worldwide Jihad of militant Islam against the only Christian country in the Middle East. My family’s home was shelled and destroyed, leaving me wounded. I lived underground in a bomb shelter from age 10-17 without electricity and very little food. I had to crawl under sniper bullets to a spring to fetch water for my elderly parents. I was betrayed by my country and rescued by my enemy Israel, the Jewish state that is under attack for its existence today.”

Gabriel’s mission is to urge Americans to become American Congress for Truth activists, joining a growing network of concerned citizens who want to preserve their country and its freedoms for succeeding generations. Just as the Anglosphere defeated the evil forces of Nazism, Fascism, and Communism, it is time to conquer this latest threat to civilization. Recognizing that the enemy perpetuates worldwide atrocities simply because “they hate” and not because of western cultural hegemony, or any other PC nonsense, is the first step towards winning a war that we didn’t start, but must ultimately win.
