Whatever You Do, Don't Question Their Patriotism!

August 2nd 2007 01:09
In response to what is shaping up to be a great week for freedom, based upon this op-ed written by Michael O'Hanlon of the left-leaning Brookings Institution , Democrats all across America are demonstrating their patriotism by finally admitting that good news in Iraq (i.e. good news for America and by association, the Bush Administration) is terrible news for them. Don't believe me, click here for Democratic Congressman James E. Clyburn's insights. Better yet, click here to read all about Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Boyda's petulant reaction to positive news reported by Army General Jack Keane to the Armed Services Committee. Apparently, listening to a briefing announcing hopeful developments in Iraq was simply too much for the Kansas Democrat. As any mature adult would do, she dramatically left the room in a huff.

Several months back Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid shamelessly vowed that even if General Petraeus - a man unanimously approved by Congress to lead the surge - reported back to Washington with good news, he would refuse to believe him. This is, sadly, what passes for leadership in the Beltway these days.

But hey, they really, really support the troops!

In reality, all the Democrats give a damn about is their own power. Their political fortunes are inextricably invested in defeat, thanks in large part to their Far-Left money danglers, including MoveOn.org (funded by billionaire Bush-derangement sufferer Georg Soros) and the Daily Kos (Markos Moulitsos' mud-slinging hate site). The rabid "peace" activists have taken over the party, and it aint a pretty picture. Just ask Hillary about the group Breasts Not Bombs' invasion of her campaing kick-off party in San Francisco (Click on the link if you dare, but consider this fair warning). Poor Hil, it must get exhausting straddling all those fences...so many fanatics, so many centrists, so little time. But I digress.

It's a tragedy for America and the free world that, during this existential battle for western civilization, leaders in Washington, entrusted by the people to uphold the welfare and safety of this great Republic, openly want their country to fail. When self-interest is the number one consideration, everyone loses. How and why such callous opportunists came into the majority is a debate for another day (spineless Republicans bear much of the responsibility). But one thing is certain: When civil servants cheer their nation's setbacks and willfully disregard its victories, all in the name of political expediency, that nation is in deep trouble.

Sadly, Incumbistan is the state of mind and state of reality on DC - to which too many pols aspire. Those who go there to accomplish something rather than accrue wealth and power are the outliers (Senators Coburn and DeMint for example). That is why there is so little faith in the political class.

We have entered a bread-and-circuses phase of American history, where the "leaders" hope only to pacify the masses, the masses seem content slopping up the latest pseudo-celebrity gossip (Paris Hilton did what again to become famous?), and the armed forces are some strange caste, culled from a remnant of a former time, when belief in the ideals of a country were so deep that one was willing to lay down one's life in their defense and support.

We need voices such as yours, FB! Freedom is one of those ideals worth dying for, but creeping socialism and lassitude in the face of existential threats endanger it. Keep speaking out for it - our children's world depends on it!
