Young America's Foundation to CAIR: Go to Hell and Take Your 72 Virgins with You
August 1st 2007 23:47
The conservative Young America's Foundation received a threatening letter today from CAIR, Council on American Islamic Relations, demanding the removal of a scheduled speaker from its annual student conference this week in Washington D.C. Robert Spencer, conscientous author and founder of Jihad Watch is set to address conference attendees tomorrow. Naturally, fearless defenders of free speech, including the American Civil Liberties Union immediately condemned CAIR for their assault on the First Amendment...well, no, of course not. True to form, the bastions of "tolerance" on the Left remained deafeningly silent and woefully indifferent to Mr. Spencer's right to free speech and Young America's Foundation's right to host him.
When you get right down to it, those who dare to criticize jihad and its supporting cast of dhimmis can forget about garnering any sympathy from liberal hypocrites. Far from being a foaming-at-the-mouth Muslim hater, Robert Spencer is a distinguished scholar whose works include The Truth About Mohammad and The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam. The Mission Statement on his website reads in part:
Jihad (in Arabic, "struggle") is a central duty of every Muslim. Modern Muslim theologians have spoken of many things as jihads: the struggle within the soul, defending the faith from critics, supporting its growth and defense financially, even migrating to non-Muslim lands for the purpose of spreading Islam. But violent jihad is a constant of Islamic history. Many passages of the Qur'an and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad are used by jihad warriors today to justify their actions and gain new recruits. No major Muslim group has ever repudiated the doctrines of armed jihad. The theology of jihad, which denies unbelievers equality of human rights and dignity, is available today for anyone with the will and means to bring it to life.
Jihad Watch is dedicated to bringing public attention to the role that jihad theology and ideology plays in the modern world, and to correcting popular misconceptions about the role of jihad and religion in modern-day conflicts. We hope to alert people of good will to the true nature of the present global conflict.
Spencer, who is also a regular contributor to Michelle Malkin's video blog, Hot Air, makes a clear distinction between jihad warriors and moderate Muslims. But he accurately points out that the radicals who are perpetuating Global Jihad in the name of Allah are using the very words of Mohammad to justify their actions. And by their unwillingness to publicly ostracize the savagery of the radicals who share their faith, influential Muslim groups are indirectly supporting them. Where is the outrage? If white Catholic men were perpetuating heinous crimes against humanity and operating worldwide terror cells in the name of Jesus, the Pope would be the first to condemn (and most likely, excommunicate them). At the very least, he would publicly declare to the "international community" that these fanatics in no way represented the doctrines of the Catholic faith.
In any case, here we have an upstanding citizen and intelligent scholar personally attacked in a menacing letter addressed to YAF and written by a CAIR attorney. Click to read the whole thing, but I think this excerpt conveys the message:
For these reasons, we demand that YAF cancel the subject session, or else take steps to ensure that false and defamatory statements are not disseminated at that session.
Our clients have instructed us to pursue every available and appropriate legal remedy to redress any false and defamatory statements that are made at that session.
Please let us know by the close of business today, Wednesday August 1, 2007, whether you intend to comply with these requests.
Observes Spencer:
Note the personal smears, the attempt to bully and intimidate, and the non-specificity of the charges against me (they can't be specific, because I don't say anything inaccurate about them -- or about Islam or jihad).
Note also the irony: this letter comes a day after CAIR's Ibrahim Hooper slandered me on national television by ascribing to me hateful words written by someone else -- which appeared on this site for about an hour, during which, lo and behold, someone at CAIR was watching.
YAF official, Jason Mattera, was unimpressed with CAIR's elite New York attorneys. His verbatim response? "CAIR can go to hell and they can take their 72 virgins with them." If only the self-proclaimed "champions of free speech" would demonstrate the same gumption. Bravo to Jason Mattera for showing true character with his straight talk. Not since Todd Beamer's simple, defiant anthem, "Let's Roll!" have I felt so inspired by a fellow American, except of course, those who are truly fighting for free speech on the battlefield.
